Last Month: Crime Victim, Crime Perp, And Associated Fallout
I have not posted in some time. For that, I apologize, oh half-dozen-or-so loyal readers. I've been pretty busy and out of town a lot. But in this month of quiet here on Farm Fresh Meat, there have been several incidents of note:
1) My truck was broken into in my back yard. The perps were initially chased off by my next door neighbor. They returned. She chased them off again and called the cops the second time. Nothing of particular value was stolen, though the broken window, two destroyed lock cylinders, and replacement stereo ran me about 400 bucks altogether. And that's with me doing the repair work!! I wish they had just asked me for the five bucks that they probably got when fencing the broken Sirius Radio receiver they took.
2) Incident #1 has given me the motivation to actually get cracking on some of these house projects I have been deferring for a while. Particularly, a fence around my backyard. Last weekend I tore down a cinder block wall that was built most of the length of my yard next to the ratty chain-link fence as the first step in this process.
3) Have nearly finalized a kitchen plan, woo hoo! I am not sure I've mentioned it here before, but I decided to return the kitchen to the main part of the house. The addition, where the kitchen (such as it was) resided when I moved in, will be rebuilt as a sun porch of some kind.
4) I am fighting the power on my cell phone ticket. The language of the law specifically applies to a moving motor vehicle. As you may recall, I was busted while using my cell phone at a red light. My motor vehicle was not moving. I give myself about an 8% chance of the ticket being dismissed as a result of my mail appeal, but I fully intend to go to court. From there I give myself about a 60% chance of the ticket being dismissed due to the cop failing to appear. Beyond that, who knows. I think I am actually in the right in this situation, both from the point of view of the spirit and the letter of the law. It will be interesting if this actually gets before a judge to see what happens. Take me to the supreme court baby...
